Wine Poached Pears - Peras al Vino

With spring just around the corner (as of March 2026) this dish is an absolute spanish staple. Sweet and indulgent pears poached in a rich wine of choice. Red wine will yield a darker more hearty dessert, whilst white wine will keep it light and fresh. Both are certain to please!

Directions

1.To ensure the pears can stand on their own, slice the bottom off. Place them in a small deep pan, allowing little room between each of the pears. Add every other ingredient and place over a medium/high heat. Its as easy as that!

2.Bring to the boil and simmer for 30 minutes. They should remain firm but begin to soften so beware not to overcook them.

3.Leave to cool, preferably overnight so the flavours can harmonise to the best of their potential.

4.Serve in a small bowl or a plate, with the optional ice cream (definitely worth trying them both with and without)!
